Pandiya rebels took an oath to shed royal blood as the first part came to an end, and Chola chieftains were preparing an insurrection against their own people. The issue of whether prince Aditya Kariklan, the reclusive Prince Arunmozhi, their estranged Uncle Madhuranthakan, or Pandiya rebel Amarabujanga will rule as the next monarch set the setting. With their performances, Vikram and Aishwarya Rai effortlessly win the audience over. This part 2’s throbbing heart is comprised of their personalities and their heated struggle. Vikram effortlessly portrays the grief and suffering of a crown prince who feels deceived in love while simply nailing his part.
Of all the actors, Aishwarya Rai receives the most significant role in the second film. She communicates the moral quandary beautifully and has an ethereal appearance. Karthi must be noted in relation to Ponniyin Selvan because he has a sense of humour, is a skilled actor, and can compel support. As Arunmozhi, Jayam Ravi is likeable and incredibly engaging.
This time, Trisha is fantastic as she reveals her vulnerable side. Aishwarya Lekshmi and Sobhita Dhulipala deserve to be on the screen a lot more. Even though veteran actors like Prakash Raj, R. Sharath Kumar, and R. Parthiban must make do with a small amount of screen time, they are in no way rendered irrelevant. Regardless of screen time, every character leaves a lasting impression and a unique location.
What Mani Ratnam expertly does in just two parts of the historical epic film adaptations is nothing less than excellent work by a director who has effectively maintained his relevance with his career for forty years. The director crafts the kind of eye-popping extravaganza we’ve come to anticipate from him and idolises his narrative above all else.
The first half of the film is dedicated to foiling the wicked schemes and allowing the romance between its many protagonists to blossom. The confrontation between Vikram’s Aditha and Aishwarya’s Nandini is the highlight of the movie. The difficulty starts before the point where Ratnam cranks up the pace and prevents us from relaxing throughout the difficult sections. The biggest twist regarding Sundara Chola and his times as a young prince is revealed in the second chapter of the sequel.
Due to the numerous branching plots, Ponniyin Selvan lacks a filmic structure. Ponniyin Selvan is only one aspect of it. Additionally, it concerns Vandhiyadhevan and Aditha Karikalan.
With its throbbing beats and ethereal beauty, AR Rahman’s music is also a significant factor in capturing the audience’s attention. He produces breathtaking and intricate graphics with longstanding Ratnam collaborator DOP Ravi Varman. Outstanding VFX work. Editing expertise displayed by Srikar Prasad.
PS 2 is a film that, because of its characters, art, creativity, narrative, and presentation, is definitely worth seeing in a theatre. There may be parts of the movie that seem pointless, but these minor problems may be readily overlooked. The climax scene and pre-interval segment are both excellently produced. Overall; In adapting this grand novel for the big screen, Mani Ratnam has done an outstanding job.
