Plot

When approaching a police station, Dr. Janaki announces that she has killed a man. She would only provide the information to inspector Karunan’s circle as her one and only requirement. As soon as they show up, the media pressures the police into investigating the claimed homicide by having them go to the scene first. They discover evidence implicating the investigating officer while they search for the grave. Does he play a part? If so, how? Unless otherwise stated, how did his possessions end up at the crime scene? Ini Utharam reveals the twist and explains why Janaki chose to surrender.

Performance

As the brave but innocent Janaki, Aparna Balamurali has been flawless. In terms of her demeanor and attitude, she is a good fit for the role of Janaki. As a mystery cop who is difficult to categorize as either good or evil until the conclusion, Harish Uthaman steals the show. As the adversary, Kalabhavan Shajon was excellent and gave a portrayal that felt genuine. With their explosive performances, Siddique, Jayan Cherthala, Shaju, Siddharth Menon, Jaffer Idukki, and Chandunath together make up the ensemble cast of the film.

Direction / Technical Side

Sudheesh Ramachandran, a debut director, aims to expose the relationship between the police and political figures as well as how police officers might fabricate information for their own gain. The suspense in the first half was expertly developed and carried through. The film’s consistent tone of subject matter throughout and the artistic handling of various scenes, including conversation and action, are noteworthy.

Direction / Technical Side

With too many things trying to be accommodated, the second half deviates from the original plot. An explanation that is long and complicated towards the second half undermines it. With its formulaic and somewhat nonsensical situations, it completely loses the momentum that the film had going for it. While Hesham Abdul Wahab’s music evokes romance, Ravichandran’s camera captures the mesmerizing beauty of the mist and hues of the locations as well as the suspense and heat of the drama.

Terrain Map

Verdict; The tension in the first half was expertly created and kept up. The second half veers off the primary plot as a result of the excessive number of occurrences that must be managed. Overall, what we get instead of a multi-layered thriller with insightful details that fill in all the gaps is a mediocre thriller that could have been excellent. 3/5
