From Notes to Frames: Dhanush Set to Bring Ilaiyaraaja's Story to Life
An official first look poster for the biography film, named Ilaiyaraaja, featuring veteran Tamil music composer Ilaiyaraaja, was presented today in Chennai. Playing the role of Ilaiyaraaja in the film, actor Dhanush said on social media that he is honored to be playing the legendary musician. Arun Matheswaran will helm the biography, while Nirav Shah will handle the cinematography. The legendary Ilaiyaraaja will compose the soundtrack for his own biography. Veterans of the business including Vetri Maaran and Kamal Haasan attended the film’s premiere. The movie, which stars Dhanush, will shortly begin production.
One of India’s best music composers, Illaiyaraaja, will have his life and times chronicled in the film. Throughout the course of a five-decade career, he has written over 7,000 songs for over 1,000 motion pictures. He has given more than 20,000 concerts all around the world. The composer and actor Kamal Haasan are friends, and on Wednesday the actor unveiled the first look poster for the movie. The actor remarked, “His music always amazes me.”
Like an old postcard, the poster shows a young guy walking into Chennai with a backpack filled with his possessions. Dhanush said, “Honoured,” in his post thanking everyone for sharing the poster. When questioned about taking on the role of Ilayaraaja in the biopic Ilaiyaraaja, Dhanush said in an interview, “Your thoughts shape your reality.” Emerging. If Ilaiyaraaja’s songs don’t help us fall asleep at night, many of us listen to them. I could not sleep at night, reliving scene after scene in my head as I imagined what it would be like to play Ilaiyaraaja sir. Emerging.”
