Gist of The Story
Two strangers from very different backgrounds meet in this entertaining romantic comedy while traveling from Ooty to Kerala. The voyage advances when new situations and people are encountered.
Plot
While traveling by rail from Coonoor to Mettupalayam, Harry and Nima cross paths. The pair promise to treasure their little time together and create memories for one other while keeping most of their past and personal information private. After a little more than a year, they reconnect in Kochi under different circumstances. Will they rekindle the bond they established on their adventure, or will they part ways once more?
Performance
Although he cites a dark past once more, Shane is enjoyable to watch as he breaks free of the stereotype of the wounded young guy. The principal part is shared by Shane Nigam and newcomer Pavitra Lakshmi. The two have such great chemistry that the audience feels more of a connection to the characters. Shane is seen attempting to change up his normal approach this time. The sad scenes were really effectively handled by Shane. Deepak Parambol, Basil Joseph, Amika, and Aju Varghese are the other well-known actors in the group, however they didn’t really do much.
Direction/Technical Side
The smooth first half presents viewers with a love journey that doesn’t fall into clichés. However, the second half doesn’t maintain the same pace, and the viewing experience is average, slightly affecting the overall length of the film. But for the most part, the films are stuck in old plot structures, ironically falling into the kind of “clings” that the film seeks to break. The screenplay’s mixed feel, incorporating the peripheral beauty of hit films in a similar space, can’t help but hold your interest. Shaan Rahman’s background music matches the quality of the film. Cinematographer Swaroop Phillips tried to capture Ooty’s natural beauty as best he could.
Verdict; Ullasam is another Rom-com film that tries very hard to impress the audience but fails because of the writing. Most movies have dated plots and, ironically, end up adhering to the very “clichés” that they are trying to avoid. This movie couldn’t be saved by Shane Nigam’s charm alone!
