Instead of adding a subtle touch to his narration, Piyush Gupta opts for simplicity. The movie is not, however, in any way inadequate. It is really straightforward and feels just as comforting as a basic home-cooked dinner. He makes the story enjoyable and upbeat. Things only start to become a touch melodramatic towards the conclusion, but Gupta maintains his grip on the story. Even though the messaging is good, it needed to be shortened—possibly by 30 minutes. Instead of the boring tempo and plot, the performances carry the movie and give it some type of flavor. If you have two hours to spare, Tarla is a good choice for a sentimental, lovely little film. It will let you down if you were hoping for an uplifting story of triumph due to its slow pacing.
