Gist of the Story
Suzhal – The Vortex is a crime thriller that, when a crime occurs in a small village in India, goes beyond the usual inquiry and poses a threat to shatter the social and cultural fabric. Ancient mythologies and the unsettling present mix against the backdrop of a special micro-festival as we are sucked into the storm’s eye.
Plot
Suzhal, an investigative drama centered around a missing child, gets off to a strong start with Shanmugam (Parthiban) speaking in front of a factory protest. He is the union’s head and is battling factory owner Trilok Vadde (Harish Uthaman). In a moment of wrath, Shanmugam declares that the factory will burn if he doesn’t give in to the demands of the workers. The factory caught fire that night, but no one was hurt. Trilok suspects Shanmugam without a doubt. The case is being looked into by police inspector Regina Thomas (Sriya Reddy) and sub-inspector Chakravarthy AKA Chakkarai (Kathir). Nila, the youngest daughter of Shanmugam (Gopika Ramesh), vanishes in the meantime. The fire incident and Nila’s kidnapping are related. Nandhini, Nila’s older sister, intervenes and collaborates with Sakkarai to identify the murderer on the run and those responsible for the fire tragedy.
Performance
With this web series, Kathir demonstrated his mettle once more, and his admirers will treasure the way he handled the emotional scenes. He is the series’ heart and soul. Aishwarya Rajesh has a great introduction that fits with our mass heroes, but her place in the narrative is inconsistent. Her persona also possesses a hint of uncertainty, which is skillfully portrayed by filmmakers Anucharan and Bramma. Sriya Reddy returns with a bang and gives an outstanding performance that is faultless. The character that Parthiban is playing is fantastic. He effectively conveyed his desire for retribution as the father of two children.
Direction/Technical Side
While Bramma of Kuttram Kadithal renown directed the first four episodes, Kirumi director Anucharan handled the remainder. It spends a lot of time intriguingly introducing the characters. As a result, we are able to comprehend the characters’ motivations and psyches. The show’s flaws can be hidden by the amount of clever concepts in each episode. Some links are either weaker than others or are concealed in a series where everything and everyone is connected by prior events in order to deliver the upcoming unexpected twist. Suzhal features an outstanding composition by Sam CS that evokes the emotions of the characters and the audience. The editing by Richard Kevin and the cinematography by Mukeshwaran were flawlessly coordinated.
Verdict; The number of original ideas that are presented in each episode can mask the show’s shortcomings. Suzhal is a compelling and complicated thriller supported by a well-written script, with the exception of a few minor flaws (Kudos to Pushkar and Gayatri).
