Gist of the Story

Baby manages the family’s estate on behalf of Papi, the head of the household. Papi urges Baby to murder his son after Basil and Mini start to get close. Baby and Papi’s family members go above and beyond to look out for Basil and uphold their honour.

Detailed Plot

The 250-acre property is held by the Thiruvachola family, whose ailing patriarch Valyappachan is in charge of it. Baby looks after it and due to the Covid-19 shutdown, the family members are residing in their ancestral home. Stanley and his wife show up at their home, where Mini is a member of the Thiruvachola family and Basil is Baby’s son. A dispute arises between the two families as a result of the rumor that Mini and Basil are dating. Stanley and his wife make all the decisions, including whether to marry Merin, Mini’s older sister. The main focus of O Baby’s plot is the rift that Baby and the Thiruvachola family experience as a result of the revelation of Mini and Basil’s love affair. The entire plot is around how their rivalry plays out and whether or not the families mend their ways.

Artistes’ Performances

Dileesh Pothan does a fantastic job playing the title role in O.Baby. With a character that must experience a range of emotions, Dileesh Pothan shows off his acting skills in his best performance to date. Vishnu Agasthya, known for his role in the film Karikku, plays a significant role in it and does a fantastic job. Haniya Nafisa and Devadath, two up-and-coming actors who play the parts of Mini and Basil, respectively, also put up outstanding performances that highlight their prodigious acting skills. To keep the audience intrigued about what would happen next, Gopalakrishnan, Saji Soman, and Dr. Shinu Shyamalan all contribute.

Direction / Technical Side

O. Baby, which is helmed by Ranjan Pramod, bravely investigates the pressing topics of caste prejudice, societal tyranny, and honor killing. O.Baby succeeds in developing its notion, but the first half of the film occasionally drags. The movie’s true direction, nevertheless, comes into focus in the second half as the complex relationships between the two families play out. The first part of the second half, which features some amazing stunt choreography, is very thrilling. The movie is also full of oddities that highlight the generational differences between its characters in terms of both their attitudes and language. O.Baby never conforms to the stereotype; it demonstrates the universality of the Internet and the information it brings. It also doesn’t restrict itself to the wealthy or the so-called upper castes, who are frequently the victims of ignorance for not keeping up with the times.

O. Baby succeeds in large part due to its casting. Even if it could have a few minor shortcomings, it unquestionably merits a place on your watch list, especially given how current it is. The breathtaking images of the plantations and the stunning Western Ghats by Arun Chalil provide an enjoyable theatrical experience. Editing by Shamjith Mohammed is also top-notch. Pranav Das and Varun Krishna’s music is appropriate for the sequences.

Verdict; The movie O. Baby examines societal oppression, honor killings, and discrimination based on caste. The movie occasionally drags but succeeds in presenting its idea with utmost sincerity. The casting and present relevancy make it worthwhile to watch.
