Gist of the Story
After being duped by a con artist, a lowly auto driver is forced to flee, leaving his wife and two children behind. Will he succeed in rescuing his family?
Plot
An upright middle-aged car driver named Radhakrishnan (Vijay Sethupathi) has a happy life with his devoted wife Savithri (Gayathrie) and their two adoring children. We witness the other people in his life, including his friend Ismail (Guru Somasundaram), how he got up with this family, and why he decides to strive for a life better than his current one in a flashback that is disguised as a bedtime story that he tells to his young daughter. In order to sell his plots and have the money for his children to attend a private school, he strikes a deal with Madhavan (Shaji), a real estate developer. He is ultimately taken advantage of by Madhavan, who has now fled, leaving him to face the wrath of his village’s residents and police action. Can Radhakrishnan find a way to maintain his family and make sure his children have an education without it falling apart?
Performance
Director Seenu Ramasamy found a latent potential 10 years ago today through the movie “Thenmerku Paruvakaatru.” Yes, the movie was Vijay Sethupathi’s acting debut, and he gave a strong performance. With his outstanding performances, the talented star later made a name for himself and won the hearts of the cinephalis. Once again, Vijay Sethupathi delivered a strong performance in Maamanithan; he effortlessly brought Radhakrishnan to life. He successfully evoked in everyone the discipline and affection of a young guy, and many found it to be immediately relatable. In this realistic drama, Gayathrie, who plays Vijay Sethupathi’s wife, took on weight for the part. In the movie, which is about the love that unites a family and the sacrifices parents make for their children, the actress also performed without makeup.
Direction/Technical Side
One scene flows into the next seamlessly in the first half, which showcases some of the best filmmaking in this director’s work. Even the most emotional scenes are delivered in a lifelike way, which helps us identify with the characters and empathize with the predicaments they face. Even if the second half is predictable, the director makes an effort to keep the scenes realistic and non-preachy. Sukumar’s cinematography was excellent, however Ilayaraja and Vijay Sethupathi’s music and BGM fell short of expectations.
Verdict; Vijay Sethupathi and Gayathrie both put up strong performances, and director Seenu Ramasamy worked tirelessly to make the movie as realistic as he could. A Family-Friendly Feel-Good Film
