Gist of the Story

An unlucky, self-centered police officer attempts to frame an innocent person in order to gain fame, but it backfires on him.

Detailed Plot

Three sly characters—Krishnan (Sreenivasan), a cunning elderly man who earns a career by providing false testimony in high-profile cases; CI Dinesh (Vineeth Sreenivasan), a publicity-obsessed officer; and Hari (Shine Tom Chacko), an aspiring techie—serve as the center of this story. When a well-known social media influencer is murdered, their paths cross. The inquiry is being led by Officer Dinesh, who is having trouble identifying the murderer. Dinesh was determined to restore his reputation after suffering humiliation for another case, so he intended to have Hari—the only other person in the area at the time of the influencer’s death—killed. Krishnan, a guy infamous for providing fabricated justifications in court, is used by him to support his position. In the movie, we observe Hari’s retaliation to establish his innocence. The movie focuses on the sneaky strategies these kurukkans use to fool one another.

Artistes’ Performances

Sreenivasan makes a thrilling and highly-anticipated return to the movie after a long period of absence in a crucial and pivotal role. The movie’s aura and essence are tastefully and expertly crafted by his mischievous and playful sense of humor and his unique and captivating delivery style. When examining the positives and highlights, we cannot overlook Vineeth Sreenivasan’s exceptional and remarkable performance in this cinematic masterpiece. It serves as his inaugural portrayal in the role of a police officer, and he executes it flawlessly, leaving a lasting impact with his powerful and compelling acting. Shine, on the other hand, is bestowed with a substantial and engrossing character that he masters with the grace and sophistication he is renowned for. The language used in the courtroom scenes contains a sprinkling of insignificant insults that bear a resemblance to some of his previous interviews, adding a touch of familiarity. Malavika Menon had a noteworthy supporting performance despite just having a little amount of screen time.

Direction / Technical Side

Vineeth Sreenivasan’s portrayal of the cunning lawyer in “Mukundan Unni Associates” was a triumph, and in his new film, “Kurukkan,” from Jayalal Divakaran, he has tried out yet another odd character. The first movie directed by Jayalal Divakaran, Kurukkan, which translates to “fox,” was created from a Manoj Ramsingh story. It exposes you to the process the local police appear to be using in conjunction with a lawyer to prove instances in which they lack sufficient evidence. Even though the movie is about a serious murder case, it quickly becomes apparent that this is not the actual world, thus there will be some humor involved. The second act’s departure from this boisterous comic formula was the single significant flaw in the film. The finale of the movie Kurukkan features a significant twist that was added by both the director and the writer to shock the audience.

Kurukkan, directed by Manoj Ramsingh and written by Jayalal Divakaran, does not specifically aim to keep you on the edge of your seat. However, it also only sometimes succeeds in its claimed goal of making people laugh, while making an overly sincere effort. In contrast to the courtroom sequences that make up most of the second half, the investigative process is handled with just the appropriate amount of comedy and gravity. Kurukkan undoubtedly contains more than enough essential elements that can be utilized to craft a wonderfully humorous and utterly captivating thriller. However, with a meticulous touch of rewriting and meticulous joke placement, it could have undoubtedly been elevated to an even higher level. The story exhibits tremendous potential to not only entertain but fully engage the audience through its intriguing elements and well-timed comedic moments. With careful adjustments, a dash of creativity, and a masterful approach, there is no doubt that Kurukkan has the potential to become an even more delightful, enthralling, and immersive thriller experience that will leave audiences craving for more.

Verdict; The story exhibits tremendous potential to not only entertain but fully engage the audience through its intriguing elements and well-timed comedic moments. Kurukkan is a captivating and humorous thriller with all the essential elements. With careful rewriting and joke placement, it could have elevated the story to a higher level.
