Gist of the Story
In a tiny town, two girls create a beauty salon and initially receive encouragement from the locals. They have to get out of the trap after an incident sets off a dangerous game of cat and mouse.
Detailed Plot
Annie and Shilpa recently relocated to the town, but their main motivation was to rob the bank upstairs. They successfully complete the robbery and steal everything from the bank’s safe deposit boxes with the help of a retired burglar named Stephen and a local pickup truck driver named Basil. The local police, under the direction of CI Farooq Rahman and with the assistance of SI Victor Sebastian, assemble an investigation team and start looking into the occurrence. However, a problem occurs due to the stolen property belonging to numerous people, making it difficult for the police to calculate the precise amount of losses. Stephen is in the vicinity at the time of the crime, but tragically dies while they are holding him. Annie, Shilpa, and Basil find themselves in a challenging situation because they are unaware of where the stolen goods are hidden. Incriminating information about the trio eventually comes to light as the police inquiry progresses. The rest of the movie centres on Farooq’s attempts to catch Annie and Shilpa as they try to escape capture.
Artistes’ Performances
The talented Rajisha Vijayan, alluring Priya Prakash Varrier, and eminent Vinay Forrt lead the cast in bringing these fascinating characters to life. Since Annie, the character played by Rajisha Vijayan, is the one who is heavily involved in the planning, she is the one who is doing the work here. Rajisha has played the role expertly, transitioning from appearing foolish in front of the locals to taking charge of things. In this movie, Priya Prakash Warrier breaks the mould of the melancholy female character. The investigating police officer’s persona is given a little more depth by Vinay Forrt. Important roles in the movie are played by Shebin Benson and Alencier Ley Lopez.
Direction / Technical Side
Kolla, directed by Suraj Varma and starring Rajisha Vijayan and Priya Varrier, is a movie about a bank heist. The female mastermind, Annie, is what distinguishes the film from previous Malayalam heist films. The pace really picks up a minute before the intermission when a “suspect” really collapses, whereas the first half of the movie introduces us to the participants, their characters, and their reasons. The critical twist that follows is that the burglars don’t know where the stolen goods are hidden. The movie slows down right before the police began their serious search. The story told by Bobby-Sanjay was not well portrayed in the screenplay by Jasim Jalal and Nelson Joseph. Although several of the scenes needed to be sharper to appear more convincing, the surprises were pretty intriguing. Music by Shaan Rahman elicits a variety of emotions. It can be intriguing at times, but can also be upsetting and unpleasant at other times. The small town’s spirit is expertly captured by cinematographer Rajavel Mohan, while editor Arjun Ben makes sure the viewing experience is seamless and engrossing.
Verdict; The Kolla differs from earlier Malayalam heist flicks due to the female mastermind. The surprises were interesting, but some scenes could have been sharper. When Kolla is over, you got the impression that the film could have been more compelling if the narrative had been fleshed out. Overall; an average outing!
