Plot: The movie begins with Veeraraghavan (Vijay), an R&AW officer, preparing for a mission for three months someplace close to Kashmir. The Indian government decides to cancel the expedition at the last minute, but Veera chooses to proceed as originally intended, defying the requests of his own superiors. Despite carrying out the mission successfully, the incident mentally scars him, forcing him to leave the military and permanently return to his home. He finds himself in the middle of a hostage crisis a few months later. While terrorists demand the release of their leader, who was initially apprehended by Veera, he is imprisoned inside a mall with his girlfriend. Can Veera quickly free every hostage?

Performances; The movie Beast is unabashedly a Vijay film. In action scenes in particular, the performer completely dominates the screen. The heart and soul of the film is Vijay. As always, Pooja Hegde is lovely. With a dynamic performance by the lead couple, Arabic Kuttu is a definite fan favorite. VTV Ganesh takes home the top prize among the comedians. The Mollywood actress Aparna Das makes an intriguing Kollywood debut as well. Altaf Hussain, the government mediator, is brilliantly portrayed by director Selvaraghavan. The rest of the cast doesn’t do anything.

Direction/Technical Side; The script is a major disappointment, especially in the second half after the hostage crisis is subdued, and the lack of a strong villain to challenge the lead is painfully noticeable. The problem with Beast is that it has a protagonist who is too strong for missions that never seem challenging, the terrorists rarely seem dangerous and the missions are a difficult task for a daredevil like his Veera. It doesn’t look like The kidnappers have no personalities, including their leader Saif (Uncle Ajit Vikal). The Beast story is nothing new, so it all comes down to scripting. Nelson Dilipkumar has provided Vijay’s fans with some applause-worthy moments. Nelson is a master at incorporating humor into serious settings. Although his previous efforts (Kolamaavu Kokila and his Doctor) have paid off handsomely, some of Beast’s jokes fell through. With a cast of actors like VTV Ganesh, Yogi Babu, and Redin Kingsley, Beast should be a lot more fun. Had the stylish treatment been heavily complemented by a good script, especially strong antagonists, the film wouldn’t have disappointing in places. Anirudh’s background music is amazing as always, and Manoj Paramahamsa’s camera work is very classy.

Verdict ; Complete One Man Show from Vijay in this Technically Brilliant Movie. Screenplay should have been better. Strictly for Mass Movie Lovers!
