Detailed Plot

Dubbing artist Anoop (Basil Joseph) works on television serials. Anoop’s mother Rema (Manju Pillai) and he provide for their family financially. Sandeep Pradeep’s younger brother Abhi wants to move to Europe. Their father, Chandran (Jagadeesh), does not have a work. Their grandpa, Janardhanan (Meenaraj Raghavan), had always wanted to go to Varanasi. Whenever he tries to travel to Varanasi, he frequently disappears but is eventually found by friends or relatives. Anu (Basil Joseph), in an impulsive response to the disruption of his engagement ceremony, chooses to grant his grandfather’s long-standing ambition to visit Varanasi. His younger brother is not reluctant to go with him and his grandfather, even if his parents are afraid to go. But with each of the five individuals having an intransigent mind of their own, the journey from Thiruvananthapuram to Varanasi was never going to be easy. The already dysfunctional family experiences a number of unanticipated occurrences along the road, which exacerbates their arguments and forces the elderly guy to take severe action. The fallout of these occurrences is explored for the remainder of the movie.

Artistes’ Performances

Basil Joseph gave a hilarious performance as Anoop, the eldest son, showcasing his unique comedic style. He seems to be maturing in his acting skills with each film, his facial expressions and voice modulation especially noteworthy in comedy roles. The talented director-cum-actor proves once again, that he’s a natural when it comes to humor. Jagadish, playing the father Chandran, delivered a convincing and amusing depiction of a guy struggling with life’s failures. There are several profoundly touching moments in his performance, especially leading up to the climax. The matriarch of the dysfunctional family was wonderfully portrayed by Manju Pillai. Her onscreen presence was just perfect. The youngest family member was played by Sandeep Pradeep, who gave a commendable performance. Meenaraj Raghavan makes a striking Janardhanan. His character is given weight in the narrative, which is a commendable decision.

Direction / Technical Side

The title “Falimy” subtly plays with the term “family,” implying that the film is centered around a dysfunctional family and their adventures. Making his incredible directorial debut, Nithish Sahadev co-wrote the movie with Sanjo Joseph. He has chosen a few of the most dependable Malayalam performers in addition to a large cast to blend into a Thiruvananthapuram lower middle class environment. The film’s simplicity, which keeps it from becoming unduly ambitious, is its greatest asset. The performers do a fantastic job of bringing their parts to life, and the film’s overall power is enhanced by its simple plot and endearing characters.

The filmmaker beautifully pulls off the comedy scenes in ‘Falimy’. Even though some sequences in the second half might feel hurried and stretched, the humor is still very much alive. ‘Falimy’ is more than just a funny movie, it also explores the theme of loneliness experienced by people from all walks of life. The distinct humor of ‘Falimy’ that stems from the realistic situations in a typical middle-class household, where a family vacation isn’t considered a priority by all, contributes to its effectiveness. Technically speaking, Santhana Krishnan Jayachandran’s film features some excellent shots, as it was filmed in Varanasi near the banks of the Ganga. One of the film’s other highlights is Vishnu Vijay’s soundtrack.

Verdict;

“Falimy” is a film centered around a dysfunctional family and their adventures. The actors deliver excellent performances, and the film’s power is enhanced by its simple plot and endearing characters. The director masterfully executes comedy scenes, despite some rushed moments making the film overall a fun, feel good ride!
