Gist of the Story
When an innocent act of self-defense puts a rehabilitated thief at odds with society’s elite, he fights for justice.
Plot
Rajeev (Kunchacko Boban) is a former burglar in the Malayalam film Nna Thaan Case Kodu, which translates to “sue me.” Rajeev hides out in the shadows of Devi (Gayathrie), a Tamil-speaking young woman living in Kerala, after evading police after an attempted theft. He makes the choice to turn the corner after falling in love with Devi. Devi offers him a chance to change despite his difficult past with the law. On the condition that he would never resume stealing, she consents to begin dating him. And they both decide to have children before getting married. Who said that young people who live in cities and have liberal ideologies and high incomes and are rebellious are only in live-in relationships? Devi is not overly upset about believing Rajeev when he is accused of stealing once more. Go leave so that my child doesn’t have to bear the stigma of your actions, she merely commands Rajeev. Devi instantly corrects a police officer who assumes she is Rajeev’s wife by saying, “We are not married, just lovers.” She is not embarrassed by her lifestyle decisions and is not concerned about criticism. She may give the impression of being a poor, helpless woman, yet she is actually a strong, independent woman. Her independent nature defies the preconceived notions that are associated with her appearance. Rajeev is more complex than his oily, messy appearance would lead us to believe. He is knowledgeable enough about the law to persuade the judge to release him on bond without the aid of a lawyer. The Film is all about his fight against a strong minister about a dog bite caused by a pothole. Even though he is aware of his limited finances, the difficulty in finding support, and the possibility that the court system may be biased against him since he was once a frequent offender, he will stop at nothing to see that the minister is brought to justice.Performance
Kunchacko Boban has evolved over the years from a romantic hero to a serious performer with a desire to appear in roles that required study of sides and shades of individuals who are very different from one another. The actor has produced a number of restrained, unforgettable performances. He has been in some of the best films in recent memory as the pursued cop in Nayattu, the artistic yet endearing happy-go-lucky Sanjeev in Bheemante Vazhi, and the ardent campaigner in Pada. Nna Thaan Case Kodu is the latest in a string of outstanding performances from him. It is commendable that Gayathrie plays Rajeevan’s live-in companion and potential love interest. She primarily serves as a worried or upset spouse in the first two acts, but in the third act, she gets quite a few noteworthy lines, which the actor delivers confidently. It’s fun to watch the outstanding supporting cast, which included Rajesh Madhavan and many fresh names.
Direction / Technical Side
Director Ratheesh Balakrishnan Pothuval creates a fantastic socio-political satire that the average person can relate to after his Kanakam Kamini Kalaham and Android Kunjappan. Even though we are aware of the deplorable state of the roads in our state and the way the courts render decisions, as well as the corrupt political system where ministers attempt to place the blame on the contractors while they are compelled to use inferior materials in exchange for sizable bribes and cash contributions to party funds, we can’t help but wonder. Ratheesh did a fantastic job of carefully selecting each performer for the cast. They all appear to naturally fit into their parts and produce really authentic performances—something we rarely see from well-known actors.
The story adds new plot threads, making it more about the general problem of potholes, bad roads, and politics, but the satirical undertone never goes away. It’s interesting to note that Bheemante Vazhi, Kunchacko’s most recent hit, also addressed the issue of congested roads and restricted lanes. There are numerous characters and supporting tales, but none detract from the film’s overall essence. There are many odd, entertaining conversations and investigations throughout the first half of the film. The second part is entirely centered on the courtroom and the debates, where it demonstrates how time passes quickly when you are involved in a legal dispute.
Verdict; Nna Thaan Case Kodu is a quirky take on the Current Sociopolitical Situation of our Country from Director Ratheesh Pothuval which is backed by authentic performance from each & every cast. Easily one of the best performance from Kunchacko Boban. Recommended!
