Gist of the Story
The quest of a young schoolteacher to clear her father of all charges with the aid of a juvenile attorney who has never even been inside a courtroom.
Plot
Gargi, a schoolteacher who is from a lower middle class household, is portrayed by Sai Pallavi. Her mother produces and sells idli batter from her house, while her father works as a security guard at a local housing complex. Her younger sister attends school. Gargi has few significant life goals and her family is her priority in life. When her 60-year-old father is mentioned as a suspect in a gang-rape case involving a young girl, her world is suddenly flipped upside down. The rest of the narrative focuses on Gargi’s pursuit of justice and the obstacles she must overcome.
Performance
Sai Pallavi takes you on an emotional roller coaster, witnessing firsthand her powerlessness in the face of social judgment and her willingness to muster courage against all odds. There is no doubt that Sai Pallavi did a great job as Gargi. She brought the character to life. Kaali Venkat does a good job. He plays a lawyer who comes forward to help Garji when everyone has their backs on him. His scenes are pretty good, especially during court sessions. He often behaves as an inexperienced lawyer determined to win the case. The rest of the cast, including RS Shivaji, Jayaprakash and Aishwarya Lekshmi, do their best. The child actor who plays the young Gurji leaves his mark in a very limited appearance.
Direction/Technical Side
It’s the writing, the sharp dialogue, that makes Garji such a memorable film. Gautham Ramachandran’s treatment of the subject matter, striking and poetic imagery, and overall approach to the rape aspect of the story demonstrate his sensibility as a filmmaker. Gargi’s first half is busy introducing the protagonist’s world and the problems she’s going through, leading to an interesting courtroom drama. It digs into it, making it a hard-to-swallow pill. The shocking climax is the director’s final move to try and do his best. Govind Vasantha’s music fits the taste of the movie perfectly. It doesn’t add any frills or take anything away from the film. Sraiyaanti and Premkrishna Akkatu’s cinematography is effective. Shafique Mohamed Ali’s edit is fine, but many unnecessary scenes may have been cut. The processing value is also good.
Verdict ; The screenplay and the witty language are what made Garji such an unforgettable movie. Gautham Ramachandran’s handling of the material, eye-catching and poetic visuals, and overall strategy for handling the rape portion of the movie reveal his sensibilities as a director. Sai Pallavi gives a strong performance, and the film has a sharp screenplay, making it well worth seeing!
