Gist of the Story

The story of the brave people who worked together to survive the disaster is told through the narratives of individuals from every walk of existence who faced tragic consequences.

Detailed Plot

The 2018 floods serve as the setting for the movie. We are given insight into a number of folks who are in various stages of their lives. The story opens in the village of Aruvikkulam, where we see several people engaged in small arguments. One of them, played by Tovino, is a young person who left the military with a false medical certificate. He wants to leave the location since he feels humiliated there. Aspiring model Nickson (Asif Ali) is a member of the fishing community. He has no desire to go fishing and feels guilty about his brother Narain and father Thankachan (Lal), who are also fishermen. A taxi driver has made the decision to drive two international tourists throughout Kerala. We have a correspondent who covers the Mullapperiyar topic from both sides. In the film 2018: Everyone Is A Hero, we discover how all of these personalities and others related to them became the victims, survivors, and fighters in this unparalleled disaster.

Artistes’ Performances

Despite having an extensive cast of actors, the two and a half hour movie succeeds to provide each character enough weight and then adhere to their lives. Despite the fact that every actor in the ensemble is incredibly talented, Indrans and Tovino Thomas stood out from the rest of the cast thanks to their great performances. Anoop, played by Tovino Thomas, is undoubtedly the focus of the movie if you consider his amount of screen time. Tovino has done a fantastic job portraying Anoop as this endearing and sincere young man. His character is possibly the most developed one in the film with a genuine development. As the owner of a little tea shop who is blind, Indrans gives a fantastic performance. A member of the meteorological division is Shaji (Kunchako Boban). For him, playing the part is easy. One of the admirable characters in Lal’s career is Thankachan. Add to that the acting from a variety of performers who played lesser roles like victims’ moms, fathers, and bureaucrats; nothing about their performances was ostentatious.

Direction / Technical Side

A heartwarming tribute to the heroes of those times, particularly the fishermen who toiled endlessly to keep Kerala afloat, is the tale of resilience and endurance during the 2018 floods. The story is well-balanced since the movie successfully blends mystery, suspenseful tension, and lighthearted comedy. Jude Anthany Joseph concentrates on a specific location rather than writing a lengthy account of Kerala. He recounts every heroic deed, good gesture, and heartbreaking tragedy that occurred there. Jude Anthany and Akhil P Dharmajan’s writing features a lot of dramatic and emotional components that keep the audience glued to their seats.

The film also depicts the Keralites’ sense of fraternity, resiliency, fortitude, and hope during the floods. Through the figures of Tovino, Lal, Narain, and Asif Ali, the volunteers or warriors receive a prominent mention. Although the initial half was relatively slow, the second half was the calmness before the storm. The movie is like a finely made cord, with each incident and occurrence contributing to its charm, as opposed to following a simple plot with ups and downs. Jude and cinematographer Akhil George deserve praise for successfully directing a disaster film without the use of many visual effects.

Verdict; Kerala’s 2018 is an emotional remembrance of a catastrophe, combining mystery, dramatic tension, and lighthearted comedy to create a well-balanced story. It serves as an emotional remembrance of a tragedy we may have tried to forget. Go for it!
